Prime Highlights:

Nestlé is rapidly scaling up Singapore R&D capabilities to concentrate on alternative proteins, environmentally friendly packaging, and digitalization.

The growth is backed by the Singapore Economic Development Board, making Singapore one of the top-performing regional global food innovation hubs in the world.

Key Facts:

Nestlé’s legendary Singapore R&D Centre, which was established over 40 years ago, is scaling up activity in making hybrid plant/dairy foods and innovative packages.

The project is also willing to engage with local start-ups, small, and medium-sized enterprises, and local businesses in an attempt to co-develop prospective food technologies.

Key Background :

Nestlé is pursuing a strategic expansion of its Research & Development operations in Singapore to lead the innovation pace in food technology for sustainability. The move comes in sync with the priority clusters of alternative proteins, digitalisation, and sustainable packaging and is in alignment with the company vision of unlocking global food security and environmental issues.

The Singapore R&D Centre, opened more than forty years ago, is being designed to accommodate an increasingly multicultural generation of chefs, product developers, engineers, and scientists. They will be creating new hybrid foods from plant and dairy foods and novel packaging with reduced environmental impacts.

In addition to local innovation, Nestlé constructs an innovation system through smooth interaction with indigenous companies, start-ups, and SMEs. Through co-creation in practice collaboration, the goal is to improve co-creation of innovative food technology to meet changing consumers’ needs for nutrition, value for money, and sustainability.

The growth is Nestlé’s global initiative to benefit from the application of biotechnology and deep tech technologies in its research efforts. With the technologies, companies will be able to formulate new food solutions not just due to shifting consumption habits but also because Nestlé aims to ensure that food value chain across the world is sustainable and resilient.

This move affirms Nestlé’s long-term leadership in innovation and establishes Singapore as a hub of food science and technology excellence in the Asia-Pacific region.
