Key Background:
Cardiff’s Kings Road, which used to be home to Poca and La Cuina, is set to welcome a new restaurant and wine shop. Ogof will open later this year, bringing a fresh dining experience to the area.
The restaurant is a team effort by chef Alex Vines, who has over ten years of experience in top London kitchens, wine expert Siôn Iorwerth, and Zanna Clarke, who has worked in leadership and customer service in the arts and charity sectors. All three are local residents passionate about Cardiff’s food scene.
Ogof will take over the space that once housed Poca, a small plates restaurant linked to Dinas Powys’ The Humble Onion, and La Cuina, a well-known Catalan restaurant that closed in 2022 after ten years. The team aims to create a space that embodies community, sustainability, and a love of good food and wine.
Alex Vines shared, “Cooking for me has always been about place; drawing on what’s in season, the growers we work with, and the cultural tapestry of Wales.” He is known for his seasonal, vegetable-focused pop-ups in Cardiff and brings experience from notable London venues such as 40 Maltby Street and Rochelle Canteen. In addition, he has been actively involved with Cegin y Bobl, a non-profit organisation providing transformative cooking programs for children, teachers, and families across Wales.
While specific menu details are still under wraps, diners can expect ingredient-driven, seasonal offerings in partnership with local farmers and producers. Ogof will also feature an extensive wine selection, focusing on distinctive natural wines sourced from the UK and Europe, through collaborations with Wright’s Wines and other independent importers.
Siôn Iorwerth said, “We want Ogof to be a relaxed place where good food and quality wines are the focus. People can come for a meal, enjoy a glass of wine, or take a bottle home.”
Clarke added, “We hope Ogof becomes a place Cardiff residents are proud of, and a part of the city’s food and community scene.”
With its experienced team, seasonal menu, and carefully chosen wines, Ogof is set to become a popular spot for food lovers in Cardiff.
