Key Background

In March 2025, Target’s Good & Gather infant food brand, Fruselva USA, conducted a voluntary recall of 25,600 units of its Pea, Zucchini, Kale & Thyme Vegetable Puree because the product contained greater than the tolerance level of lead. The recalled item was a 4 oz tub with lot numbers 4167 and 4169 and best-by dates December 7 and December 9, 2025.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified this as a Class II recall, where although there are no expected serious health effects, the product can have transient or medically reversible adverse health effects. Lead exposures are particularly damaging for toddlers and infants because it can result in the postponement of development and neurological harm.

Target removed the recalled products from shelves and requested customers to search their inventory for the identified lot numbers. The recalled products are refundable at a full amount at any Target store or by mail by contacting Target Guest Relations. The company clarified that it is concerned with product safety and meeting all food safety standards.

This recall occurs when there is a hint that baby foods contain contaminants. Previous research has shown that baby foods as a whole have toxic metals such as arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury. Parents are warned by health officials to be careful and visit a doctor if they suspect that they have been contaminated with toxic chemicals via baby foods.
