Background:
A well-known Glasgow seafood and steak restaurant has taken its first step beyond the city, opening a new eatery in the coastal town of Largs. Skip’s Steak and Seafood Bar officially welcomed customers to its second location this week, marking an important milestone for the growing hospitality brand.
The new restaurant, situated on Gallowgate Street, has moved into the former Helter Skelter café site and offers diners scenic views across the seafront. Doors opened on December 22, with locals and visitors alike turning out to sample the food that helped make the original Glasgow venue so popular.
Skip’s first made its name on Battlefield Road in Glasgow’s south side, where it quickly built a loyal following for its relaxed atmosphere, generous portions and value-focused deals. That same approach has now been brought to Largs, with the restaurant operating as a breakfast spot by day before transforming into a lively bar and dining venue in the evening.
The Largs location opens from 10am on weekdays, serving breakfast until 11.45am. Food is available throughout the day, with last orders taken at 9.30pm, while the bar remains open until midnight. On Fridays and Saturdays, guests can enjoy a late-night bar, with doors staying open until 1am.
In a social media announcement, the team behind Skip’s said they were excited to open their second location and confirmed the restaurant is currently operating on a bring-your-own-bottle basis. To celebrate the launch, the venue also offered complimentary first drinks to early customers.
One of the standout attractions at Skip’s is its range of daily deals, which have already gained attention in Largs. Among them is a traditional fish tea, featuring a fresh haddock fillet, hand-cut chips, mushy peas, homemade tartare sauce, bread and butter, and a choice of tea or coffee, all priced at £10.95 when purchased between noon and 6pm.
The restaurant has confirmed it will close on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day before resuming normal service.
With its seaside setting, extended opening hours and popular menu offerings, Skip’s arrival adds a fresh dining option to Largs and reflects the continued success of independent Scottish food businesses expanding beyond their original roots.
