Key Background:
In an exciting development for sports and coffee lovers alike, Starbucks has been announced as the official coffee partner for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as for Team USA. This partnership, confirmed by LA28 on Tuesday, marks Starbucks’ debut in the Olympic arena and makes it the fourth founding-level partner in the growing roster of sponsors with less than three years to go before the Games.
For the first time, Starbucks will operate specially designed coffeehouses in key Olympic and Paralympic venues, including the athlete village, competition arenas, and volunteer hubs. The goal is to give athletes, fans, and volunteers a great coffee experience while bringing a social and cultural touch to the Games.
Tressie Lieberman, executive vice president and global chief brand officer of Starbucks Coffee Company, said, “Starbucks is proud to bring connection, culture, community, and incredible coffee to the world stage.” The Seattle-based coffee giant joins Honda, which became a founding partner earlier this year, alongside long-standing sponsors Delta and Comcast, who have been key contributors to LA28’s privately funded Games initiative.
Domestic sponsorships are expected to cover $2.5 billion of the Games’ estimated $7.1 billion budget. According to LA28 chairman Casey Wasserman, more than 70% of the sponsorship target had already been secured as of August. Financial details of the Starbucks deal have not been disclosed, but the announcement reflects LA28’s continued effort to collaborate with global brands to enhance the Olympic experience.
“This is our chance to co-create a Games that will resonate for generations to come, and welcoming Starbucks to the LA28 and Team USA family marks the coming together of a world-class brand and a globally embraced event,” Wasserman added.
In addition to Starbucks, LA28 recently welcomed equipment rental company Sunbelt Rentals and T-Mobile for Business as partners this September, reinforcing the growing network of
brands supporting the Games. Fans and athletes can enjoy Starbucks coffee at the 2028 Olympics.
